David & Megan’s Downtown LA Engagement Session
David and Megan’s Downtown LA engagement session had all the ingredients for a perfect shoot — good company, great light, and a little bit of adventure. We kicked things off at a small, stylish pub tucked into the heart of downtown, sharing a pint and some laughs before heading out into the city. I love starting sessions this way — it breaks the ice and lets real connection take the lead.
From there, we wandered through the streets of DTLA, soaking in the mix of textures, light, and energy that only Los Angeles can offer. Skyscrapers, street art, and that golden California glow made for the perfect backdrop as we captured their chemistry in the middle of it all.
After about an hour of exploring downtown, we packed up and made our way toward El Matador Beach in Malibu for part two of their engagement shoot. Anyone who’s driven that route knows it’s a gamble with traffic — and as the sun dropped lower, I started watching the clock. But somehow, we arrived with just enough time to catch the last bit of pre-sunset light.
It’s funny — I had been so worried about losing the sun, but the real magic happened after it dipped below the horizon. The moon rose over the water, casting a soft white glow that mixed beautifully with the lingering warmth of the California sunset. Those final frames, quiet and unhurried, ended up being some of my favorites from the day.
