Memphis, meet the meadow.

Savannah and Cade brought 89 of their favorite people across the country to Mission Ranch, where the neighbors are sheep and the sky never fully lands on a color.

Her dad walked her down the aisle, then turned around and married them. Double duty. Dad goals to the nth degree.

A bagpiper led everyone up the hill to cocktail hour. It sounded epic under the eucalyptus.

Then dinner started with the Chicago Bulls intro music, because that’s the energy they wanted, and the first dance was Elvis, because it’s Memphis and they really had no choice.

Small things were doing a lot of work. Pearls all over her collar. A fur wrap. His green velvet jacket against all that white. A hand-painted Big Sur coastline inside the invitation envelope.

Somewhere after dessert she swapped the gown for feathers and that’s when the party shifted into a higher gear.

These two threw a great party and let a wedding happen in the middle of it.

Thank you, Savannah and Cade.

The sheep say hi.

My favorite part of the day had nothing to do with the scenery, the sunset, the literally perfect aesthetics of the north coast. It was the stack of letters from family and friends they read to each other before the ceremony, handwriting crammed into every margin because apparently everyone who loves these two had a lot to say.

So thankful to spend the day with these two lovey babes for their elopement at Timber Cove.

Best job with the best people.

The photo that gets taped to the fridge, texted to grandma, and shows up in every ‘remember when’ scroll for the next fifty years.

Long live the refrigerator photo.

I quit scrolling other wedding photographers for inspiration years ago. All it did was spike my anxiety and keep the same handful of ideas getting passed around the community kinda like a drink nobody ordered.

So I found new sources: films, street photographers, art magazines that have nothing to do with weddings.

This shot of the gents owes its whole vibe to @wmbrownmagazine.

If you only ever look at people doing your job, you’ll only ever make what they’re already making. Go look somewhere nobody in your industry is looking. That’s where the good stuff is.

This pretty corner of wine country said “let’s do the whole vintage Porsche thing” and the day just kept one-upping itself from there.

We started in a garden getting the dress situation sorted (that veil moment, come on), rolled up in dad’s 356 Speedster, said “I do” under a canopy of oak trees old enough to know what life was like before Aperol and Grey Goose, then ate family-style under string lights until the light went gold and everybody forgot they had a bedtime.

The guest list was a literal linen banner because paper felt too small for this day.

The band played until the last martini glass hit the table.

Nobody wanted it to end, including me, and I was just there to take pictures.

An open letter to Jess and Jaison’s people - You

An open letter to Jess and Jaison’s people -

You guys really struck the friendship lottery with these two. Every friend group needs that person they can get a hug from whenever one’s needed. Or maybe a house with an open door that feels like a safe place when the world feels out of control. Maybe it’s just an ear that listens and a heart that genuinely cares.

If you could bottle up the warmth of the sun and imbue it into a couple, it would be Jess and Jaison. And for all these reasons and more, consider myself jealous that you have an ally like this in your life. It’s rare.

As someone on the outside who had a just a single day to drop in and spend time with you, thank you for letting be one of the pack, I felt like an old friend from the very first minute. From the deep talks to the lolz, each of you are some of the best humanity has and the light you all reflect toward each other isn’t something often seen.

Some people find their people. Jess and Jaison found theirs twice over, once in each other, and once in all of you.

Lucky them. Lucky us.
