There’s a certain kind of wedding that doesn’t feel like a wedding until you’re already in the middle of it. Then you can’t imagine it being anything other than exactly what it is. Gina and Brad’s wedding at Comal Berkeley was that kind of day.
A School Bus, Obviously
It started at their house in the hills with the whole crew. Champagne got poured before noon and nobody apologized for it. When it was time to go, they didn’t call a limo. They called a school bus. The whole wedding party piled on with drinks in hand. They rode through Berkeley like they owned it, which on that particular Saturday, they kind of did.
Stone Steps and Sunshine
Portraits happened in the sun on a set of stone steps in a Berkeley park. The bridesmaids wore every color imaginable. The groom had a mustache that deserved its own credit.
Comal, One of the East Bay’s Best Wedding Venues
Then they arrived at Comal, tucked into Berkeley’s Arts District on Shattuck Avenue. Ivy-covered walls, warm wood, an open patio that feels both lively and intimate. The ceremony was short and full of feeling. The recessional brought the whole room to its feet. Happy hour followed with yacht rock and margaritas, then speeches, dinner, and first dances.
The Brass Band Takes Over
At some point the West Grand Brass Band appeared and took over the room completely. That was that.
