The Old Sugar Mill Wedding

“Weddings don’t get much better than this.” I remember saying that to myself the moment I walked into the reception area and saw how incredible Alex and Tony’s Old Sugar Mill wedding was styled. This venue (now my all time fav Sacramento wedding venue…) is a converted Sugar Mill that’s perched right on the banks of the Sacramento river. The brick walls worn form a century of use, old steel pipes with their nostalgic patina – non-functioning aside from aesthetics – and the paned windows that have surrendered some of their glass to a rock or two. My favorite weddings are those that reflect the style of the area, but most importantly, the couple. Every last detail, from the palm fronds adorning the tables, to the geometric alter, and all in between. It was all considered and chosen with intent. Not one accidental.

It’s not a well-kept secret that I love traveling and get occasional (ok, frequent) bouts of wanderlust. Tony’s family is from Vietnam and Alex’s from Italy, and both wanted to incorporate elements of Vietnamese and Mediterranean tradition. Little reminders of their origins. Ref: Alex’s red dress, a Vietnamese custom I’m a pretty big fan of.

I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to photograph couples and weddings like this. How is this my job?! To you, Alex and Tony, and all those reading these words who I’ve photographed before or will in days to come, thank for trusting me to do what I love. Never have I taken it for granted.

Team Alex & Tony was made up of some of the best: Coordination by Brianna Gauff and incredible (like… SRSLY? SO good) florals by Paeonina.
